Brisighella’s Olive Oil

It has been the first extra virgin olive oil marketed with the European Union Pdo label (Protected Designation of Origin) in March 1998. Its production area is mainly the Lamone valley, near the border with Tuscany, and it includes, either wholly or partially, the municipalities of Brisighella, Faenza, Riolo Terme, Casola Valsenio in the province of Ravenna, and Modigliana in the province of Forlì-Cesena. It is a top quality fruity oil, with a tomato, artichoke, almond and grassy flavour, and a full-bodied distinct aroma.

Olive Oil Colline Di Romagna

It has been the second extra virgin olive oil to receive the Pdo label. Its olive tree grows mainly in the province of Rimini, especially on the hilly areas of the Marecchia, Marano and Conca river valleys. A fairly important production area is also located on the hills of the Appennine mountains near Cesena, and in the Montone and Bidente river valleys. The oil produced from these olive trees is yellow with deep greenish highlights. It has a mild fruity fragrance, a medium sweet taste, and is not very robust.

Shallot of Romagna

The shallot of Romagna is a savoury aromatic bulb that plays a special role in cooking. The production area includes the cities of Brisighella, Casola Valsenio, Castel Bolognese, Faenza, Riolo Terme and Solarolo (Ravenna) Modigliana and Tredozio (Forlì-Cesena), Borgo Tossignano, Casalfiumanese, Castel del Rio, Castel Guelfo di Bologna, Dozza, Fontanelice, Imola and Mordano (Bologna). The Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) exclusively identifies the bulb belonging to the Allium Ascalonicum species, with its unmistakable flaskshape, tough skin and colour.

The history of Castel del Rio is deeply linked with the history of chestnuts. The chestnut of Castel del Rio is one the most valuable and well-known chestnut varieties in Italy and abroad. It is very different from the common chestnut, because of its size and for its taste and fragrance, which is even more enhanced when cooked. Lastly, this chestnut is extremely easy to peel. Its production area includes Castel del Rio, Fontanelice, Casalfiumanese and Borgo Tossignano (Bologna).

Peaches and nectarines of Romagna are fresh fruits products produced from different yellow and white varieties. Emilia-Romagna is the first nation in Europe to be awarded the Igp label (Typical Geographical Indication). This certification attests the origin and guarantees product traceability throughout its production cycle and processing phases.

The Emilia Romagna pear is mainly produced in the surroundings of Ravenna.The denomination ‘Emilia-Romagna Pear’ includes several varieties. This pear variety is sweet or aromatic-sweet and can weigh from 158 to 260 grams.

White Veal of the Central Appennine

The Pgi label granted to the white veal of the Central Apennine identifies a variety of meat obtained from the Chianina, Marchigiana and Romagnola cattle species, both male and female, aged between 12 and 24 months. Today, the Romagnola race is appreciated most of all for its meat, which features superior organoleptic qualities, a strong pink colour and the right amount of fat.
